Today's Athletic Events Scheduled:
SHS Girls Basketball hosts Mt. Zion High School beginning at 6:00 in the SHS gym.
SMS Girls Basketball travels to Neoga Junior High School for games beginning at 6:15.
SMS Boys Basketball travels to Cerro Gordo Middle School for games beginning at 6:00.
Results From Yesterday:
From SHS Girls Basketball: The Lady Redskins came out and played a great first quarter and held Teutopolis to 12 points while scoring 11 of their own. We ran into some foul trouble and Teutopolis capitalized on that to take a 34-17 lead at halftime. The final score was 59-29. We were led in scoring by Laine Cameron who had 7 points. She also led her team in rebounds with 9. Elizabeth Green and Esther Miller each had 6 points. The JV lost by a score of 80-24. Emily White led in scoring with 8 points, and she also led in steals with 2. The leading rebounder was Avery Still with four.
From SMS Boys Basketball: The 8th grade boys lost last night to Shelbyville 37-17. Logan Anderson scored 1 point; Addison Owens had 2 points; Devon Winings had 3 points and Ryan Villalobos had 11 points. We are 2-2 on the season. The 7th grade boys basketball team was also defeated by Shelbyville by a score of 41-23.
From SMS Girls Basketball: The 7th grade girls basketball team fell to Tuscola East Prairie last night by a score of 39-7. Alaina Moore had 3 points, Gabby Penberthy had 2 points, and Hadarah Scott had 2 points as well. The 8th Grade Lady Redskins lost to Tuscola 40-15. The score does not reflect how hard the girls played last night. Lilly Null had 10 points, Skyla Palmer had 4 points and Kinley Hill hit a free throw.
From SHS Scholastic Bowl: Scholastic bowl traveled to Clinton last night to face Clinton and Central A&M. We beat Clinton in the first match 140-90 and were led by Katie Webb and Spencer Johnson with two toss-ups. The second match we lost to Central A&M 210-100. We were led by Gary Herschberger with two toss-ups. The JV team defeated both Clinton and CAM. They were led by Reagan Crouse with 12 toss-ups on the night. They defeated Clinton 300-30 and CAM 200-80. Shyanne Hunter had 5 toss ups and Dasey Swiney-Frederick and Brett Johnson had 1.
Other Announcements:
Congratulations to Natalie Drury, Anna Wooters, Alison Oligschlaeger, and McKenna Kull on being named athletes for the week by the Mattoon Journal Times Gazette! These four individuals will compete this weekend in the IHSA State Swimming Meet at New Trier High School.
