Mrs. Harpster’s third grade class created their own holiday parade after learning about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. After enjoying the book “Balloons Over Broadway,” each student used the Nearpod app to create a design for a parade balloon on their iPads. The class learned about Tony Sarg, a puppeteer credited with the idea for the balloons and the success of the parade. Inspired by Sarg, students perfected designs, drew diagrams, planned and selected materials, and then went to work building their parade entries! So much fun was had! The class also studied the history of the parade, creating a timeline and collecting information to include in the culminating activity…an iMovie! Students chose facts to share with their audience and had fun showing off speaking skills, a little dancing, personality, and those amazing balloons! Thanks to Mrs. Fleming for her help with the production of the movie and Mrs. Kalagian for collaborating and facilitating the project!
